בבויוקאדה (Büyükada), הגדול באיי איסטנבול, החתולים משוטטים בעצלתיים ברחובות וצמח הבוגנוויליה פורח וקמל. האי כאילו נלכד לנצח בשנות ה-80. אי מלא בסיפורים. “אהבה, כישופים וכל השאר” הוא אחד מהם.
זהו סיפורן של שתי נשים, שנפגשות שוב לאחר עשרים שנה והרומן הנלהב והכואב שניהלו בצעירותן ניצת מחדש. ארן שטה אל בויוקאדה כדי לשכנע את אהובת ילדותה, רייהאן, שהן עדיין מאוהבות. האחרונה לא ממש נלהבת מהמחווה ואף מתוודה שהיא הטילה כישוף אהבה על ארן לאחר שזאת עזבה. אך ארן לא מרפה, נחושה לזכות בליבה של רייהאן מחדש.
הבמאי\תסריטאי אומיט אונאל, שהצגנו את סרטו “הרימון” בשנת 2012, יחד עם צמד השחקניות הראשיות, יטילו עליכן כישוף ויספקו מלודרמה מרגשת על העימות האבסרודי בין חילוניות לאמונות טפלות, נוסטלגיה והעולם המודרני.

כריסטי עובד כשוטר בבוקרשט. אהובו האדי מבקר מפריס. האיחוד שלהם רומנטי ומרגש, אך עומד בסתירה מוחלטת לסביבת עבודתו של כריסטי ובכלל למציאות במדינה שעדיין נמצאת בתהליכים לא פשוטים בהכרה בזכויות הלהט”ב. כאשר קבוצה דתית של מפגינים הומופוביים מתפרצת לאולם קולנוע בו מתקיים פסטיבל קולנוע להט”בי, היחידה של כריסטי מוזעקת למקום והוא מוצא את עצמו לכוד בלב המאבק שממנו הוא כל כך ניסה להימלט בחייו הפומביים. מצד אחד המפגינים ומצד שני קהל הצופים של הפסטיבל כאשר אחד מהם הוא גם מאהב מהעבר.

“שדה פרג”, סרט הביכורים המרשים של יוג’ן ג’בליאנו, ממשיך את המסורת של הקולנוע הרומני כיצירה מרתקת ללא הנחות שמחזיקה את הצופה במתח גבוה. השחקן הראשי, קונרד מריקופר, המגלם את כריסטי יוצר דמות אנושית, מורכבת ומלאת קונפליקטים שמשלמת את המחיר הכבד של החיים בארון בסביבת חיים הומופובית ואלימה. את הסרט הזה לא תשכחו שבועות אחרי הצפייה בו.

מעצב השיער בדימוס, פט פיטסנברגר, בגילומו המרגש ומלא ההומור של אודו קייר, ויתר מזמן על החיים. הוא נעל את עצמו בין קירות בית אבות אפרורי בעיר סנדוסקי, אוהיו. אבל כאשר הלקוחה האהובה ביותר על פט הולכת לעולמה, משאלתה האחרונה היא שפט יעצב את התסרוקת האחרונה שלה בארון הקבורה. פט מחליט לצאת למסע אפי כדי להתעמת עם רוחות העבר שלו ולאסוף את ציוד היופי הדרוש לעבודתו האחרונה.

ז’אנר הסרטים של במאים הנמצאים במשבר במהלך יצירת סרט חדש חביב במיוחד על אנשי קולנוע ותיקים, מפליני עד ג’יימס פרנקו. את הגרסה הגאה מספק הבמאי\שחקן אנתוני היקלינג המגלם קולנוען בן 40, שעובר התקף חרדה בלתי מוסבר, נוטש את הצילומים של סרטו החדש ויוצא לשוטט ברחובות פריז הלילית בחיפוש אחר תשובות, נחמה והשראה. במהלך הלילה חסר השינה הזה, הוא חווה מפגשים אקראיים עם דמויות זרות ושלל התרחשויות מטרידות, סקסיות ומעוררות מחשבה. הוא יתמודד עם פחדיו ויטיל ספק בשאיפותיו – עד עלות השחר.
הבמאי העצמאי האלטרנטיבי אנתוני היקלינג מספק את סרטו הנגיש ביותר עד כה. התוצאה היא אודיסאה לילית של גבר הומו בן 40+ בחיפוש אחר משמעות לקיום שלו בתחתית פריז. עוד בסרט ז’אן כריסטוף בובט הזכור מהסדרה “אמילי בפריז”.

Dos Estaciones

Between red dirt hills, blue skies and green fields of agave lies “Dos Estaciones” (Two Seasons), a humble local Tequila factory, struggling for its survival against the big companies that are taking over the production of the traditional Mexican drink. Heading the small factory is Maria Garcia, the heiress of the family business and the one who keeps the whole community together as the main employer in town. To help her oversee the company she hires Rafaela, whose vibrant presence gives hope both to the factory, who is in dire need of a miracle, and for Maria. When a plague and an unexpected flood cause irreversible damage, Maria needs to do all in her power to save the main source of income and pride for her community.
“Dos Estaciones” describes the country life and the tradition and art of making Tequila in an effortless and magical way.
Theresa Sanchez in her debut role is taking the screen by storm as a strong woman who fights for the family tradition and goes to war against the foreign corporations that are trying to take over her small town.

Elephant

Imagine “Brokeback Mountain” meets “Call Me by Your Name” and you get “Elephant”, the wonderful debut film by director Kamil Krawczycki. The film was shot in the Polish rural countryside where the director grew up and is based on his own experiences.

22-years old Bartek runs a small horse farm in the Polish mountains. He was forced to step into the role as head of the family, when his father left and his mother completely fell apart. One day, their neighbor dies and his son Dawid returns to the village for the funeral, after a 15 years of absence. Bartek is completely taken by the carefree Dawid, and for the first time in his life he falls in love. Now Bartek has to decide whether he’s willing to choose freedom over his familial obligations.
This film shines a little ray of hope in the dark times that the LGBTQ community in Poland (and elsewhere) are undergoing right now.
“Elephant” will leave you with a smile on your face and a warm feeling inside.

Winter Boy

Christophe Honoré’s (“Dans Paris”, “Love Songs”, “Man at Bath”) new film is an autobiography, and for the first time brings the director’s story to the big screen.
“Winter Boy” comes to the TLVFest after its international debut at Toronto Film Festival and following the win for Best Actor for the rising star Paul Kircher in the San Sebastian Film Festival.

Lucas (Paul Kircher) is going to a boarding school, far from the small town where his parents live, and has a boyfriend, a fellow student. Lucas has endless joie de vivre and he can’t wait to graduate and join Quentin (Vincent Lacoste), his older brother, in Paris. A sudden tragedy turns Luca’s world upside down and everything he took for granted is suddenly taken from him. Lucas is filled with sadness and despair, lost in his own pain. His mother Isabelle (Juliette Binoche in a very moving role) doesn’t really know how to help her young son. Lucas joins his older brother in Paris, but Quentin is not emotionally available to support his young sibling, and so 17 years old Lucas has to find his own path, looking for solace in the cold wintery Paris, through dating apps and problematic sexual encounters.
Paul Kircher is perfect as Lucas, a blunt young man who cannot express, contain or release the enormous pain he’s carrying. His scenes with Juliette Binoche create intense and heartfelt complexity.
“Winter boy” gives us an intimate glimpse into the world of a teenager on the cusp of adulthood and the journey of that boy to try and find his way back to hope.

Kasey (Josh Lavery) is a young country boy who’s making his way to Sydney. Until he will reach his destination he travels through rural Australia, steals alcohol and has sex with strangers in bathrooms of truck stops on the long endless Australian roads. When he finally makes it to Sydney, his small town mentality and big cowboy hat draw the wrong kind of attention. He signs up to a dating app and becomes very popular – through that app he meets a young attractive man named Tib (Daniel Gabriel) with whom he has an immediate physical connection. Kasey moves in to live on Tib’s couch and helps him do odd jobs around the city. The two get close enough to share emotional wounds, and will discover that together loneliness becomes more bearable, but is this the start of a real relationship?
“Lonesome” is one of the more sexualy graphic films of the TLVFest, but it’s also a very sensitive film about the search for affection, belonging and fulfillment against a great loss.

Viewing is 18+ due to explicit sex scenes.

The Phantom of the Sauna

While searching for a job suitable for a young gay man who just arrived to Madrid, Javi enters a local sauna, where he meets the owner, her strange son and their horny clients.
Javi will soon discover the place is full of secrets, the biggest one being a man hiding in the bowels of the sauna where no one goes, and that he is destined to fall in love with – The Phantom of the Sauna.

This camp musical (with slight touches of horror) is a wonderfully trashy treat that brings to the silver screen an over the top gay romance. The one and only Antonia San Juan, who played Agrado in Pedro Almodovar’s masterpiece “All About My Mother”, is the sauna owner. Another sparkly guest appearance is by Supremme De Luxe, the Spanish version of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” host.
