National premiere for this hit, one of this year's most audacious and controversial films, straight from the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival. The heroine's name is the combination of two names: Stella and the Greek word for madness (trela). Yiorgos is released after 15 years of imprisonment for murder. He relocates to a simple hotel at the center of Athens, where he meets Strella as a young transgender prostitute. They spend the night together and start seeing each other. Panos H. Koutras succeeds in creating a sweeping piece with a surprising and memorable plot. "Strella" is a totally independent film which did not receive any support from film funds or commercial production companies. That didn't stop it from hitting the market and win a series of awards in festivals around the world.
